It's a decent adventure with solid scares, and it's very accessible even for new VR players. In conclusion: While certainly not up to RE7's level, this is easily the second-best horror game available on PSVR. The notes give a few good glimpses into the backstory, but the ending is a little weak - I won't spoil it, but the player is asked to do something that is pretty obviously thing A, but they're told it's thing B, and then the game expects us to be surprised when it's thing A after all? Just odd Story: The game gets into trouble with context right away - I was unsure what character I was playing as for 80% of the game, which kind of kept narrative momentum from building. Lots of jump scares, a few disgusting sequences where you have to be around corpses - largely effective. Excellent sound design leads to effective scares. You can change the size of the degrees with each turn, but can't switch to smooth turning.Ītmosphere: The game is legitimately creepy. Here's a tip - be sure to shine the flashlight at the ground when you're on the stairs and in the kitchenette - otherwise you might miss a book and a tape.Ĭontrols: The game is controlled with two move controllers, using buttons for locomotion, and slice-based turning. I got into trouble twice - right at the start and right at the end - because the game is so dark that I missed items that needed to be picked up to progress the story. Works well enough, with the game doing a decent job of flagging where each new event is supposed to occur. Gameplay - Walk through the house, find keys, read notes, listen to tapes - it's all pretty standard first person horror adventure stuff. The biggest problem is blurry textures on notes - sometimes the game taxes a few seconds to load in the high-res versions of notes, so players will be stuck holding a paper with blurry nonsense on it until the game gets around to realizing they want to read it. Not to the level of RE7, but more than acceptable to walk around in. The character models aren't great, and move stiffly, but the environments all look very good. Things look much better inside (where the rest of the game is set), where the developers have a much better handle on furniture, hallways, and the like. Graphics: The game doesn't impress as it begins - like the Slenderman game it starts outside the house, and the low-res trees and grass leave a lot to be desired. Just played through the whole game in ~2 hours, and I'm here with some thoughts! Game Discussions Previous AMAs PSVR Dev?
